In this war drama, the protagonist, Detective Inspector Foyle, is an idealized representation of British manhood. His father, who served in World War I, admitted to killing enemy soldiers. In the first two series, Foyle asks to be transferred to the War Office, but eventually accepts the role because detective work is important to the war effort. Foyle's War is the perfect film for those who love British literature.

The plot is set in 1940s Hastings, where war is close at hand. Foyle and his son are out walking in the country when a German bomb lands in their field. A young woman, meanwhile, is woken by sirens and finds her flatmate dead. This war thriller also realistically delves into the history of anti-Semitism and the class system. However, it doesn't do much for the show's main character, Holly. Her shady background and unprofessional behaviour make her an easy target for a predator. The outsider doesn't do much to improve her chances of finding her, and the mystery ultimately falls flat.

The Outsider is a British mystery with a twist. The characters are all British, and the cast is excellent. You'll be engrossed for a couple of seasons.
